CLE punk, baby. The Sex Pistols couldn't play their instruments, the Ramones kicked ass, and Dead Boys combined the two into something much more violent.
Born from the ashes of the band Rocket From The Tombs, Dead Boys formed in 1976 with Stiv Bators on vocals, Cheetah Chrome on guitar, Jimmy Zero on rhythm guitar, Jeff Magnum on bass, and Johnny Blitz on drums. They only released two albums, "Young, Loud, and Snotty" in 1977 and "We Have Come for Your Children" in 1978. The song "Sonic Reducer" off of their debut is arguably an all-time punk top ten song.
Stiv Bators was a maniac on stage in the vein of Iggy Pop. Johnny Blitz got stabbed 17 times on a street in New York and the band played a benefit concert for him and John Belushi sat in on drums. They lived loud and fast but were probably one of the more gifted and professional early punk bands.
