Obviously the Covid situation has caused numerous sporting event cancellations. Many of us purchased event tickets through a ticket broker like Stubhub. When the OSU-Oregon game was looking like it would not take place after the Oregon governor stated outdoor athletic events through September would be cancelled or modified I called Stubhub about getting a refund. They indicated that their Fan Protect guarantee had been revised from a 100% refund to a 120% credit toward future purchases. They also said if I disputed the charge through my credit card company my account would be locked.
Never responding well to threats, I immediately filed a dispute with my credit card company and also filed a complaint with the consumer protection division of the state attorney general. I attached a copy of the original Fan Protect guarantee in effect when I bought the tickets, documents showing the event cancellation, as well as a copy of one of the complaints from several class action lawsuits filed against Stubhub over this issue. Stubhub locked my account. The AG would not do anything after Stubhub told them to pound sand (I do not live in one of the states where refunds are mandated by law) but my credit card company came through with a refund.
I would be curious to learn how others have fared in this scenario. My advice is to act quickly before Stubhub goes bankrupt. I will avoid doing business with them in the future.
