With many NFL teams introducing new helmets this year – including several throwback styles – I thought I’d do a just-for-fun post with Big 10 throwback helmets I’d choose for each team.

First off, shout-out to “The Helmet Project” where you can check out the helmet history of any team at all levels of college and pro.  I found this site many years ago, before the rising popularity of alternate helmets, and they’ve still managed to keep up with cataloguing all the helmets that are churned out these days.

For this exercise, I chose a historic helmet for each team that I would personally choose as their alternate.  Some teams had several good “candidates” and for some the best throwback option was pretty obvious.  Check out the Big 10 page of Helmet Project and let me know if you’d choose other options!
