It seems Dan Hope’s story in which Kevin Warren hinted at “future expansion” of the B1G was something of a prologue. Warren’s declaration sends a very clear message:
“Because where we are right now, I'm focused on being realistic about the state of college athletics. About accepting our responsibility to shape college athletics, lead college athletics, fortify college athletics. To be bold, to be strong, to be innovative.”
In the last 17 hours, two stories have been posted - one of which asserts - the B1G is very interested in extending invitations not only to multiple other PAC teams and ND, but the ACC’s Florida State and Miami, as well:
These stories and Warren’s own words indicate to me that the B1G may very well expand to as many as 32 teams. Brand values of teams and their rivalries compel TV execs to underwrite such earth-shaking changes and colossal realignment moves.
Yet logistics and regional character are factors, too. It may end up being a much bigger B1G, but it may not feel like it to most fans, on Football Saturday. Trips to new areas of B1G Country will be scheduled as such that it won’t feel that much different from a non-conference game.
