After an embarrassing loss to Northwestern it seems the Scott Frost era in Nebraska is coming to its end. Frost came to Nebraska as a returning hero, he is a former QB and was coming off a national championship season at UCF. However in his first 4 seasons he was terrible, he never reached a bowl game, the QB position(the one he coaches) was inconsistent, and special teams/toughness has been issues every year. For whatever reason he was given a 5th year despite being a bad coach, along with this his contracts buyout was greatly reduced. Now following a loss to Northwestern, Nebraska will likely miss a bowl game again and will move on from Frost.
So the question is who should they hire? This hire will lead them into the new era of the B1G and will hopefully return them to some level of relevance. Here are some options:
- Matt Campbell-The ISU HC has proven he can’t win with less. He has turned down offers but as the conferences go from P5 to P2 maybe he makes the jump
- Matt Rhule-The Panthers HC seems to be on his way out. After turning Baylor into a train wreck following the Briles era into a big 12 championship he could be a great option to try to turnaround NU. His speciality was recruiting and developing 2nd tier Texas players.
- Jeff Hafley-The BC HC has been very competitive at a place that is hard to recruit to. Seen as a rising star he could be a home run
- Bryan Harsin-The Auburn HC was hated by boosters from the start. He was very successful at Boise State before and could be much better in a more stable situation
- Jim Leonard-Wisconsin DC has been excellent and know how to make a great defense in the big ten west, surely could do the same at Nebraska
