I was thinking about this today after my comment in the run down. I remember in 1998 how Joe Germaine threw for over 300 yards and it was insane. Who threw the ball that much back then?! Today, as Matt Gutridge quickly pointed out, CJ Stroud has now thrown for 300+ yards in 13 of 20 starts and has the most 300+ games in school history.
So I was thinking... Let's say Ryan Day decided to change the team composition to a run dominated offense. A new three-yards and a cloud of dust mentality. We run 80% of the time and the quarterback is basically a game-manager.
Can a team still win a national championship in 2022 using a run dominated offense?
Also, keep in mind this will dramatically effect recruiting. No 5 star wide out is coming to block for a running back on every play. And would the top running backs still come or would they still gravitate towards the flashier offense where they can be out catching passes on wheel routs?
