Has anyone noticed how much “New Media” outlets are performing traditional powerhouses this season with online college football coverage? It’s kind of been building a while but it just seems super prevalent this season. You have long format CFB discussion outlets like Josh Pate, Barstool’s Unnecessary Roughness, and Pat McAfee (although not solely CFB focused) outperforming ESPN, CBS, and all the major media outlets’ digital output by a lot. Even Zach Smith’s show is outperforming Joel Klatt’s show some weeks. On top of that you have YouTube Channels like Wheels clipping game highlights (idk how he gets them up so quickly) and blowing out the major networks’ highlight videos. I see it as a welcome change. I think people are bored with straight and narrow boring sports journalism. It’s been bubbling for a while and frankly I hope it gets even bigger.
