Adding to their individual successes on the mat, four Buckeye wrestlers were named 2017 NWCA Academic All-Americans following their performances in the classroom. Nathan Tomasello, Micah Jordan, Bo Jordan, and Kyle Snyder were each All-Americans at the NCAA tournament in March, with Snyder capturing his second individual title.
The Buckeyes led the country in All-Americans on the Academic All-American team with four, while Cornell, Minnesota, and Oklahoma State each had three.
As a team, Ohio State finished No. 14 in the country in team grade point average with an impressive 3.300 average. Team grade point averages are compiled with the 10 competitors at the conference tournament, as well as two other individuals. Harvard had the highest team grade point average with a team mark of 3.586. Brown, American, Kent State, and North Dakota State round out the top five teams. The Buckeyes were not a part of the top 30 team grade point averages last season, so the 2017 results demonstrate a marked improvement in the classroom for the WrestleBucks.
Individually, four NCAA champions were among the 135 Academic All-Americans, including Snyder, Oklahoma State's Dean Heil, and Penn State's Jason Nolf and Zain Retherford.
