Former Ohio State men’s hockey player and current Vancouver Canucks forward Dakota Joshua announced Tuesday that he was diagnosed with testicular cancer this summer but is on the road to recovery after a successful surgery to remove the tumor.
Joshua will miss the start of Canucks training camp while recovering from the surgery but expects to play in the NHL this season, saying he is “working hard every day” in order to rejoin his teammates “as soon as possible.”

Joshua, who played for the Buckeyes from 2015-19, is coming off the best season of his NHL career as he recorded 18 goals and 14 assists, including five game-winning goals, during the 2023-24 regular season. He followed that up with four goals and four assists in 13 playoff games for the Canucks, who advanced to the Western Conference semifinals before the Edmonton Oilers eliminated them in a seven-game series.
