I decided to look back at the guys who played in the NBA who were recruited by Matta and compare that to the number of years in the program
1 and done - Oden, Conley, Cook, Koufos, Mullens and Russell - 6
2 years - Sullinger - 1
3 years - Turner - 1
4 years - Zero
Sullinger could have certainly turned pro after his freshman year but chose to stay.
I know the NBA is very youth heavy most years in the draft etc, but the fact that in 13 years Matta never had a player go 4 years and make the show is startling.
2 other guys got drafted who have yet to play on the NBA include Thomas at 3 years and Deibler at 4 years
Compare this to Izzo.
Tom has had a total of 17 total players drafted of which 13 played in the NBA, plus had 5 other players play in the NBA who went undrafted for a total of 18 in the nba in 21 years. Matta was on pace for about 13 in 21 years.
Of those guys Izzo produced you get the following
1 and done - 2 guys - Randolph and Davis
2 years - 2 guys - Richardson and Haris
3 years - 1 guy - Brown
4 years - 13 guys - Cleaves, Peterson, Ager, Davis, Green, Payne, Dawson, Valentine, Bell, Anderson, Lucas, Appling and Forbes
That is about as stark a difference as you can get.
