As always after a big non conference win most of us root in OSUs best interest and that means Notre Dame winning out. This will improve OSUs strength of schedule and help us to avoid playing either Bama or UGA in round 1. Notre Dame is a bit unique where I am sure some of us will continue to root against them. Either way ND impressed me. Their defense looked really good and limited OSU, while their offense struggled they wont be playing a defense as good as OSUs this year.(feels great to type)
They sit at 0-1 and here is their remaining schedule
- Marshall-Should be a blow out as they get back on track
- Cal-A lower tier P5 team that could be a little bit of a challenge. ND should win comfortably but will be a real opponent
- @North Carolina-NC went to the wire with App State. They seem to have a really good offense with Drake Maye at QB and scored 60 with Josh Downs playing at receiver due to injury. Still their defense is trash and could struggle with ND physicality. This could be an upset though.
- BYU(neutral in Vegas)-BYU could be a really tricky game this year, they just dominated USF and this game will be a long trip to Vegas after playing @NC.
- Stanford-EZ win
- UNLV-EZ win
- @Syracuse-EZ win
- Clemson-If Notre Dame wins out to this game this could be huge and determine a playoff spot. Clemson winning would put them in really good shape for a playoff spot(assuming they win to this point) while eliminating ND. ND winning would put them ahead of the ACC and also keep themselves very much alive for a spot. ND winning could launch OSU into a clear #1 seed as well.
- @Navy-A bit tricky after a Clemson game normally but Navy is terrible this year
- Boston College-Potentially a tricky spot but BC just lost to Rutgers
- @USC-A real measuring stick for both USC and ND. Could Lincoln Riley already have USC ahead of the Irish? This game could have so many ramifcations between making a NY6, making the playoffs, or having a dissapointing year.
I think they finish either 9-3 or 10-2. I give them about a 50% chance to beat Clemson and @USC so they split that one way or the other. Cal, @NC, BYU is a tricky stretch that will determine if they are a top 10 team or a top 25ish team. I have much more belief in the potential of them going 11-1 than I did before though. If they can limit OSUs offense then Clemsons offense shouldnt be much of a threat, but Clemsons defense is great. USCs offense will likely be a bit more effective than OSU was able to be but ND should control the LOS and physicality of that game on the road.
Ill be watching and rooting for them the rest of the way, fun team to watch.
