Well, here we go. I am sure this post will get shut down by the (correct and justified) folks who will say it never should have come down to 1 play, etc. Yes, our offense was an abomination and we basically played to lose the game the entire 2nd half. But how is there no discussion on this play? The back breaking 27 yard by Mullings on 3rd and 6 where we had a piece of him in the backfield, but somehow he broke contain and got out of there for the huge gain and setup their game winning FG.
How did that happen though? It only happened because Sawyer got yanked down to the inside after he set the edge and started to beat his man to make the TFL. Klatt calls it out right away in the replay, but moved past it pretty quick.
Look, I get it, WTF on our overall performance, and fire everybody all that. Also blaming the refs is "loser talk", and probably more importantly the B1G has shown us repeatedly they will not call holding on teams playing against OSU. Evidence by the fact only one holding call has been issued against OSU's opponents all year.
But this is a straight takedown at the point of attack, and the ONLY reason it was a 27 yard gain and not a 2 yard loss. Brutal missed call in that situation. They have to punt, and who knows what happens from there. (Probably a 3 and out, or a missed FG by us, but I digress).
Point is, there better no blame on the defense. For the whole game, or even that final drive, and especially this play. It's at 13:18 if the time embed doesn't work.
