Five-star 2027 quarterback Brady Edmunds commits to Ohio State.
Don't post on here very often, but when I do I like to have numbers to back up my opinions. I had concerns early in the year about the lack of downfield passing game after going to the Michigan State game and seeing in person how much behind the line of scrimmage passing Chip was scheming up. Along with not stretching the field at all on Saturday, Chip and Day decided to completely abandon their main source of offense.
Ohio State had two scoring drives on Saturday, in those two scoring drives:
15 Passes attempted
10/13
96 Passing Yards
2 PI's Drawn
126 Yards Gained
8.4 Yards/Pass Attempt
4 Rushes
7 Yards
1.75 Yards/Rush Attempt
On their other eight drives combined:
20 Passes attempted
9/20
79 Passing Yards
3.9 Yards/Attempt
2 INT's
22 Rushes
70 Yards
3.18 Yards/Rush Attempt
On the scoring drives they were throwing the ball 79% OF THE TIME.
On their non-scoring drives they were throwing the ball ONLY 48% OF THE TIME.
They did not target Jeremiah Smith ONCE in the final 25 minutes of the game.
The run game wasn't even working on the two scoring drives, it's not like they caught lightning in a bottle on those two drives and could never capture it again. They legitimately never could run the ball and still insisted on trying. That's not a knock on this team as a whole, the IOL is banged up and that's okay if you scheme around it. Instead they decided to run the ball up the middle A LOT. The numbers on between the tackles runs:
14 Rushes between the Tackles
34 Yards
1 First Down
2.42 Yards/Rush
17 yards came on a rush in the second half by Quinshon Judkins, if you take away those 17 yards they were:
13 Rushes between the Tackles
17 Yards
0 First Downs
0.76 Yards/Rush
I've tried really hard to understand anything about the gameplan and I can't.
I do want to give props to everyone who was at the Shoe on Saturday. Atmosphere was awesome. Lower bowl stood for the entire game and the place was loud even when the team continually shot themselves in the foot.
