The Ohio defensive tackle originally committed to Kentucky in August.Three-star Ohio defensive tackle Cavon Butler announced his commitment to play football for the Kentucky Wildcats back in August. The 6’3”, 285-pound tackle was Kentucky’s 15th commitment in the 2019 class.Butler’s recruitment was off to a slow start until Alabama extended an offer back in June. The Wildcats came next and Butler committed soon after that. However, Ohio State and Michigan State have both recently become more interested in the Toledo, OH product. And the experts are starting to line up behind Butler eventually committing to tOSU.
Bill Kurelic, covering the Ohio State Buckeyes for 247Sports, spoke with Butler last week. He said he found Butler to be “a bit strong in his commitment to the Wildcats” than he expected. That seems to be good news for Kentucky.
However, Kurelic went on to say he expects Butler to eventually flip to the Buckeyes, which jives with what other recruiting prognosticators are saying. Butler has 8 crystal ball predictions on 247Sports.com and all of them are for Ohio State.
Butler has a visit to Ohio State lined up for the Ohio State-Michigan game on Nov. 24. If Butler keeps his recruitment open I think he flips to Ohio State. It’s always going to be extremely difficult for Kentucky to get an Ohio recruit that the Buckeyes want, and that appears to be the situation here.
But if his commitment is as strong as it seems to be, and if Butler signs in the early signing period, then I think Vince Marrow and the Wildcats may be able to hold off the Buckeyes.
