I am curious about how recruits and their families evaluate player development as a factor in choosing their school.
While I am sure that many recruits feel that development won't be critical for them because they are stars - it must factor in to their decisions to see the positives and negatives and listen to coaches. We have had a great track record in developing three star kids into NFL players and high performing college athletes - we have also had some bad runs with four and five star kids that never managed to play effectively and ended their college careers with minimal time on the field.
Do kids see the risks? That it is possible that even if they work hard and are truly gifted at football they may, because of schematic or coaching issues, never have meaningful playing time? How does the staff address these potential issues? There can be nothing more disheartening than to be stuck in a position group that sucks even though the kids are highly ranked recruits and hard workers.
