Buckeye excellence is not exclusive to the football field or the basketball court. Around the Oval is our way of keeping you informed of the amazing things happening with the other 34 varsity sports on campus.

Women's Gymnastics Loses First Conference Meet of the Year In College Park

The Bucks traveled to No. 20 Maryland for their fourth conference meet of the season, falling 194.250-195.950. The Terps scored a season-high in points and Ohio State could not make up for its costly falls on the beam and on the floor. The Buckeyes outscored the Terrapins in just one event (vault) and was beaten on the floor by a point and a half.

Olivia Aepli achieved the highest score on the uneven bars and vault, but took a fall on the floor, scoring just a 9.000 in the event. Janelle McClelland won the floor with a 9.900, giving Ohio State three event winners and a team loss.

Earlier this week, Colby Miller was named the Big Ten's Co-Freshman of the Week for his performance on the uneven bars. Nebraska's Adnerys de Jesus was named her complement.

The Buckeyes will host the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Saturday.

Track Teams Compete at Clemson

Ohio State spent the weekend in sunny South Carolina, meeting against some of the top teams in the nation at the Tiger Paw Invitational. Ohio State finished with seven gold medals and two new school records.

Luke Landis, a senior from Norwalk, Ohio, took home two gold medals, both of which resulted in new personal records. Senior Sade Olatoye won the gold in both Shotput and Weighted Throw, breaking the Clemson Indoor Complex Facility's venue record in the process. Abby Nichols from Kettering, Ohio, broke the Ohio State record for the 5000m dash with a time of 16:14.00s. Sophomore Anavia Battle earned gold in the 200m dash and senior Nick Gray finished third in the same event.

The Buckeyes will be back in action this Friday at the Field House.

Men's Tennis Sweeps Georgia

The Buckeyes exacted their revenge yesterday, beating the Bulldogs 4-0 in Columbus. The sweep avenges last year's 4-0 defeat. The victory pushes No. 2 Ohio State to an 8-0 start. Georgia, ranked 24th in the nation, has fallen to 1-3.

The Bucks swept their doubles matches and were on a pace to avoid dropping a single set to the visiting team, but Ohio State clinched the team win before three of the singles matches finished. Alex Kobelt, the 86th ranked singles player in the nation, bested Walker Duncan 6-4, 6-3 to push the home team to the finish line. No. 2 JJ Wolf, No. 12 Kyle Seelig, and No. 62 John McNally were each in the final game of their respective sets when the match was called.

The Buckeyes will host No. 5 Southern California Trojans tomorrow evening.
