Always guaranteed to be one of the state's best AAU events of the spring, the All-Ohio Nike Super 16 did not disappoint this past weekend.
With a loaded 16u field, a few top Ohio State targets put on impressive displays in a great weekend of hoops. Let's take a look at some of those top performers.
Dane Goodwin • 6'5 SG • All-Ohio Red • 2018
Despite a runner-up finish, Goodwin was impressive for All-Ohio Red, as the Upper Arlington wing continues to refine his all-around offensive game. While this past weekend wasn't one of his strongest shooting performances, Goodwin made up for it with his relentlessness in attacking the basket. One of the state's top finishers inside, Ohio State's lone 2018 commitment showed great strength and body control, leading his team to the championship game.
Jerome Hunter • 6'7 SF • OH-Nova • 2018
A top Ohio State target, the 6-foot-7 Pickerington North forward has elevated his game to a new level this spring. While Hunter at times has shown to be passive on the offensive side of the floor, he has been anything but that in the spring. In constant attack mode, he's been one of the state's most impressive performers, as his length, skill and upside are as good as anyone in the class. Continual elevation of his game could help him earn an Ohio State offer in the next six months.
Jordan Mitchell • 6'7 SF • King James • 2019
Playing up on the 16u King James team, Mitchell showed no signs of being overmatched by the older competition, playing excellent basketball off the bench. Ohio's most versatile prospect in the 2019 class, Mitchell is a dominant defender and equally impressive offensive player when in attack mode. The sky is really the limit for the Gahanna Lincoln product, who was offered by Ohio State earlier in the winter.
While not necessarily Ohio State targets, the following prospects were just as impressive over the weekend.
Justin Ahrens • 6'5 SG • King James • 2018
The MVP of the tournament, Ahrens was dynamite once again this spring in leading King James to a championship. A high-major wing guard with great athleticism and an ability to knock down shots from all over the floor, Ahrens has arguably been the state's top breakout performer in the 2018 class this spring. The younger brother of current Michigan State wing Kyle Ahrens, the Versailles product Justin Ahrens has been offered only by Jeff Boals and Stony Brook.
EJ Williams • 6'10 C • Kentucky Travelers • 2018
One of Ohio's most well-known prospects since his middle school days, the massive Williams was the most impressive center prospect in the 16u level. Standing at 6-foot-10 and roughly 350 pounds, Williams is a force on the block, and showcased impressive post work in a win over OH-Nova. At this point, Williams' only reported offer is from Xavier.
William Mfum • 6'3 SG • Adidas Pro Bound • 2019
Super athletic 6-foot-3 wing guard from Northland High School. Mfum is still only 14, but has the dunking ability that is reminiscent of Russell Westbrook. A dedicated gym rat with a massive lower body, Mfum is a player to keep an eye on going forward in Columbus, as he has the tools and physical traits to be a dominant player on both ends of the floor.
