Ohio State women's basketball squad may have just got better today. The Columbus Dispatch is reporting that a source close to Kevin McGuff's program disclosed that Stephanie Mavunga, an All-ACC center at North Carolina, will transfer to Ohio State. Mavunga decided to transfer from North Carolina in light of the upheaval following the ongoing academic scandal. Ohio State's Department of Athletics later confirmed the transfer.
Ohio State's team gets an all-conference center who averaged 14.1 points per game and 9.6 rebounds per game last season. She was a force in Ohio State's second-round tournament loss to UNC to end the 2015 season. Mavunga had 27 points, 14 rebounds, and four blocks in that contest.
Kevin McGuff commented on the addition of the talented center.
“I’m extremely excited about the opportunity to add Stephanie to our program,” said McGuff. “She is an outstanding young woman who will significantly impact our program both on and off the court. Her talent as a basketball player will also allow us to continue our march to national prominence.”
Mavunga chose Ohio State after taking other visits to Kentucky and Tennessee.
