April 7 was a day Ohio State legacy Trey McNutt won’t soon forget.
The four-star 2025 Shaker Heights product took his first-ever visit to Ohio State as a recruit and got to fully explore what the Buckeyes had to offer.
“The visit was amazing, it was my first time being on campus,” McNutt told Eleven Warriors. “The coaches were really good and I liked how the practice was run. It was really intense and a lot of competition throughout.”
At the end of his visit, Ryan Day extended an offer to McNutt in his office. McNutt had seen his recruitment take off in recent months and he’s picked up 18 Division I offers in total, so Day decided it was time to express formal interest.

“It was surprising actually,” McNutt said of his offer. “We were sitting in the office talking, and I didn’t think he’d offer me yet. It was exciting for both my Mom and me. He said we’re not going to sit here and let all these other schools recruit you. After that he extended me the offer.”
McNutt has plenty of family ties to OSU. He’s the son of former OSU cornerback Richard McNutt, and the nephew of former Buckeye safety Mike Doss.
“It was really cool,” McNutt said of getting an offer to the same school his father played at. “Walking around I got to see some pictures on the wall with him and Mike Doss, my uncle, in them. That was pretty cool.”
Shortly after McNutt picked up the offer, he called his father, who is now coaching defensive backs on Eddie George’s staff at Tennessee State.
“He was really excited, he got juiced up on the phone when I called him,” McNutt said of calling his dad. “He was really excited.”
In McNutt’s sophomore season at Shaker Heights, he racked up 40 tackles (2 for loss), eight pass breakups and one interception while rotating between safety and cornerback. He also contributed offensively, mostly at wide receiver, accumulating 577 yards from scrimmage with eight total touchdowns. He’s considered the 203rd-rated prospect and the 22nd-rated cornerback in the 2025 class per 247Sports’ composite rankings.
“They see me as a DB, either safety or cornerback,” McNutt said of OSU.
McNutt is being recruited by both safeties coach Perry Eliano and cornerbacks coach Tim Walton.
“I’ve been talking with them for a minute now,” McNutt said. “Maybe a few months. They’re really cool dudes and I love talking to them. We’ll FaceTime sometimes and talk football. They’re good guys.”
McNutt said he’s considering going to a camp at OSU later this summer.
“It will definitely be a big offer for me throughout my recruitment,” McNutt said of Ohio State.
Brandon Baker to take official visit to OSU June 9-11
One of Ohio State’s top remaining offensive line targets in the 2024 cycle has locked in an official visit with the Buckeyes. Four-star California prospect Brandon Baker announced Wednesday he’ll be in Columbus June 9-11 for his official. It’s only the second official visit he’s locked in, as he’ll also take an official to Georgia on June 23.

Baker is considered the 32nd-ranked prospect and top-rated offensive tackle in the 2024 class. He previously visited OSU in March.
“It was a great trip,” Baker told 247Sports of his spring visit to OSU. “I really enjoyed my time there and liked the overall energy and atmosphere. I spent quality time with the coaches, met some of the players, saw the Stadium and did the campus tour.”
Savion Hiter enjoys OSU visit on Saturday
An emerging running back in the 2026 class was among the recruits in attendance at Ohio State’s spring game on Saturday. Louisiana prospect Savion Hiter said he was blown away by the experience of Ohio Stadium throughout the contest.
“I was impressed how many fans showed up to the spring game,” Hiter told Eleven Warriors. “Ohio State has some die-hard fans. I talked to coach Tony Alford who told me to make sure I do my research about him as a coach and the college before deciding if it’s the right place for me in the future. He also told me about his dedication to his players as a coach and mentor and that he expects the same dedication from his players.”
Appreciate @OhioStateFB for having me this past weekend #GoBucks
