Urban Meyer met with the media on Wednesday evening for his final press conference in advance of Ohio State's trip to Piscataway, N.J. for Saturday's game against Rutgers.

Meyer says the Buckeyes have to be "conscientious" about their play calling this week, especially on special teams, because Rutgers coach Chris Ash used to be in Ohio State's meetings and is a "very good special teams coach."

Ohio State's coach was also asked about the FBI investigation that has rocked the college basketball world this week. Meyer said he thinks "a cleansing" of college sports would be good. He said he used to let allegations of cheating in college sports "consume" him, but he doesn't spend much time worrying about it anymore.

Other notes from Meyer's latest media gathering:

  • Chase Young is "not far behind" Ohio State's top four defensive ends of Tyquan Lewis, Sam Hubbard, Nick Bosa and Jalyn Holmes.
  • Ohio State continues with its six-man rotation at wide receiver but Meyer wants to see a few go-to players step up at the position.
  • Jeffrey Okudah isn't quite in the cornerback rotation yet even though he has improved enough to earn more playing time.
  • Marcus Baugh has "never achieved what he can be," but Meyer is "seeing signs" of him reaching his potential. Was set back by injuries in training camp.
  • Meyer says Elijaah Goins succeeds on special teams because he is "extremely gifted" in terms of speed. Called giving Goins a scholarship a "great investment for the university."
  • J.T. Barrett is "elite." Like all of Buckeye Nation, there's games Meyer wishes Barrett played better, but Meyer says there's also games he wished he coached better.

Check back with Eleven Warriors this evening for further coverage from the Woody Hayes Athletic Center, as offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson and several Buckeyes players are scheduled to meet with the media after Meyer's press conference.
