2025 cornerback Jordyn Woods flips from Cincinnati and commits to Ohio State.
Ohio State coach Urban Meyer held his final press conference before Saturday's game against Maryland on Wednesday evening at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.
Meyer was asked about a number of players, including left tackle Jamarco Jones, defensive tackle Tracy Sprinkle and the Ohio State linebackers, and said that each of them have improved over the course of the team's first five games.
Here's what you need to know from Meyer's latest press conference:
- Jamarco Jones is playing well but Meyer thinks he still has more in the tank. Jones has appendicitis this summer and Meyer isn't sure if he's yet back to full strength.
- Meyer said he has not had any conversations with Tom Herman in preparation to play Maryland. Herman's Texas Longhorns played Maryland in their season opener.
- Tracy Sprinkle, coming off a knee injury last season, was "rusty" as the season started but has gotten better as the season has progressed.
- Ohio State's linebackers were "very average" early in the season. "Last two weeks have been outstanding." Said move from NFL to college was a big transition for new linebackers coach Billy Davis.
- Meyer wishes D.J. Durkin would have gone to be a head coach somewhere else so he didn't have to compete against him every year in the Big Ten East.
- Meyer believes each of Ohio State's top six wide receivers will eventually play in the NFL.
- Ohio State is still anticipating a return from Dre'Mont Jones next week.
- Ohio State is "pretty close" to being "nine units strong." "The weakest areas of our teams are getting stronger ... We're headed in the right direction."
Check back with Eleven Warriors later tonight for further coverage from the Woody Hayes Athletic Center, as assistant coaches Kerry Coombs, Zach Smith and Billy Davis and a handful of players, including defensive lineman Jalyn Holmes and wide receivers Parris Campbell and Terry McLaurin, are scheduled to meet with the media after Meyer's press conference.
