Nearly two months after suffering a spinal cord injury on Monday Night Football, Ryan Shazier is moving into the next phase of his recovery.
The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center announced Thursday that Shazier has been discharged from the UPMC Rehabilitation Institute and will begin an outpatient therapy program.
Shazier celebrated the news with an Instagram post in which he thanked God, his family, his trainer, his doctors, the UPMC medical staff, his teammates and his agents for their support over the past two months. He also demonstrated his progress in his recovery through his photos, with multiple pictures that show him standing with assistance from others, including one alongside Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.
Shazier had been hospitalized since injuring his spinal cord while making a tackle during the Pittsburgh Steelers' Dec. 4 game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
