Reid Carrico has the potential to be the next top Ohio State linebacker, and he's now “officially” a Buckeye.
The true freshman got his black stripe removed after Tuesday's practice. Dallas Gant, a fellow linebacker, took it off for him as he spoke to the team.
"Hey man, it's an honor to be here," Carrico told his teammates. "I grew up a Buckeye fan. Want to thank all you guys, thank H2, thank all the strength coaches. Go Bucks."

Including five-star wide receiver Emeka Egbuka who got his stripe taken off the same day as Carrico, five true freshmen have had their black stripe removed. Carrico followed Marvin Harrison Jr. as the second four-star recruit in the 2021 class to shed his stripe and joined Jack Sawyer and Jacolbe Cowan as the third defensive player this spring to lose his stripe.
Carrico, a native of Ironton, came to Ohio State as the No. 86 overall recruit and third-best Ohioan in his cycle. Because of injuries to Gant and Mitchell Melton, he has gotten plenty of run as an inside linebacker this spring, and clearly he has impressed the coaching staff.
"He’s gonna have a great career here just because of the way he takes care of himself," head coach Ryan Day said in December. "In the classroom, on the field, one of the toughest guys I’ve seen on film running sideline to sideline"
