Even though Ohio State will play only six home games in 2023, its season-ticket sales for the upcoming football season remain high.
According to a report by The Columbus Dispatch, Ohio State had sold 55,367 season tickets to members of the general public, faculty and staff for the upcoming season. That’s just under the number of season tickets that were sold in 2022, when Ohio State sold 56,484 season tickets for its eight-game slate.
By comparison, Ohio State sold only 42,373 season tickets in 2021 after playing without fans at Ohio Stadium due to COVID-19 restrictions in 2020. With more than two months to go until the 2023 season, Ohio State’s season-ticket sales for this year are already the second-highest since 2011, when 55,749 season tickets were purchased. (Correction: This story previously stated that Ohio State’s season-ticket sales for 2023 were the highest since 2011.)
Those sales come despite the fact that Ohio State has only six home games this season, a decrease from eight last season and seven in most seasons. Combined with a new pricing model for season tickets that began last year, the fewer number of games means there are more affordable options for season tickets than have been available in past years, with season tickets in the cheapest seating zone costing only $410 (including a $2 per game preservation fee) for the 2023 season without any required contribution to the Buckeye Club. The most expensive season tickets cost $956 for 2023 and require a $1,500 per-seat contribution to the Buckeye Club.
Ohio State saw an increase in attendance for its eight home games in 2022, drawing an average crowd of 104,663 fans after a lower-than-usual attendance of 96,756 fans per game in 2021.
