A former Ohio State assistant is back in Columbus.
As first reported by Lettermen Row, Ohio State has hired Miguel Patrick as a defensive assistant. The former quality control coach left the Buckeyes to become the defensive line coach at UAB, where he spent the past two years on Trent Dilfer's staff. Dilfer did not retain Patrick after the 2024 season.
Patrick will be a defensive quality control coach for the Buckeyes, according to his X account.

Patrick is the second coach with defensive line experience Ohio State has hired in the past 72 hours. On Saturday, Ryan Day added former UCLA defensive line and outside linebackers coach Tony Washington Jr. to his staff. Washington filled the void graduate assistant LaAllan Clark left when he accepted a position as Texas' defensive ends coach in February.
A former linebacker at Alabama State, Patrick later became a well-respected high school coach in Georgia, leading Ellenwood Cedar Grove to state championships as a defensive coordinator (2016 and 2018) and head coach (2019). He was also a head coach for Cordele Crisp County in 2021 before becoming a defensive quality control coach at Ohio State in 2022.
In his two seasons at UAB, Patrick's defensive lines helped the Dragons collect a combined 45 sacks and 98 tackles for loss. They also were one of the nation's best teams at forcing turnovers in that span, recording 34 total takeaways the past two years.
