Ohio State defenseman Lauren Boyle has been named to the WCHA’s All-Rookie team. She was one of four blueliners to skate in all 36 games this season. With the Buckeyes’ defense corps battered right out of the gate, she skated a yeoman’s minutes almost from the start.
In addition to her fine play on the back end, the Eden Prairie, Minnesota native showcased some impressive offensive skills. She collected two assists in her first collegiate game, a 5-1 victory in the season opener at Lindenwood. Later in October she racked up a four-assist series against Minnesota State and was named the conference’s Rookie of the Week.
All together Boyle netted three goals and fourteen assists on the season. Her 17 points topped all WCHA rookie blueliners in scoring. She also ranked fourth in the NCAA in assists by a freshman defenseman.
Boyle is the fifth Ohio State player to earn All-Rookie honors. She joins an elite club that includes current Buckeye goalie Kassidy Sauve (2015), former Buckeye forward Hokey Langan (2010), and former Buckeye defensemen Shannon Reilly (2008), and Tessa Bonhomme (2004).
In other accolades, 13 women's hockey Bucks maintained a GPA of at least 3.0 and so earned WCHA All-Academic honors. Congrats to Stacy Danczak, Jessica Dunne, Julianna Iafallo, Claudia Kepler, Katie Matheny, Julia McKinnon, Melani Moylan, Bryanna Neuwald, Alexa Ranahan, Maggie Rothgery, Dani Sadek, Lauren Spring, and Cara Zubko.
