Round No. 1 to Wisconsin. The last meeting between Ohio State and the top-ranked Badgers went down to the wire. Friday’s tilt had none of that late game drama.

Ohio State 0 0 0 0

Sam Cogan and Jenny Ryan netted goals in the opening frame to put Wisconsin up 2-0 at the first intermission. The Badgers piled on another four goals in the second period.

Annie Pankowski and Emily Clark struck 13 seconds apart. Ryan potted her second goal of the game. Less than a minute later Pankowski increased UW’s lead to 6-0.

The Badgers’ sixth goal put an end to Kassidy Sauve’s night. She was relived in net by Kaylee Remington. Sauve stopped 26 shots in her 35:41 of ice time. Remington turned aside an additional 15 attempts.

Baylee Wellhausen capped the scoring with a third period tally. The visitors claimed a 7-0 win. UW outshot OSU 48-14 in the contest.

There is zero shame in the fact of a loss to Wisconsin. The Badgers are 2016-17’s juggernaut. If they don’t beat themselves, they’ll be the NCAA champs. However the manner of the loss is a tougher pill to swallow.

There is not much silver lining in a 7-0 decision. The shiny shred of positivity in this outing was that Ohio State’s penalty kill was flawless for a thirteenth consecutive game. The Bucks held Wisconsin scoreless in four power play tries.

The Buckeyes have a much better game in them. But if they have any revenge in mind they’ll have to get it tomorrow. The teams conclude their weekend as well as season series on Saturday. Ohio State will not see Wisconsin again this year unless the teams meet in the WCHA tournament.

Opening faceoff is set for 3pm ET. Stick around afterward for the first postgame skate of the season. If you need to rent skates from the Ice Rink you can do so.
