Ohio State recruits the top high school players all across the country every season. Prep Tracker will provide a weekly glimpse into how each Ohio State commitment performs.
KEY STATS AND NOTES
- Ohio State commitments and their teams had a record of 20-4 this week
- Jaxon Smith-Njigba injured his AC joint in his right shoulder
- Jack Miller remains out with bone bruise in his throwing shoulder
OFFENSIVE CHAMPION: JOE ROYER, TE, 2020
There's been a ton of hype about Ohio State's four blue chip receiver commits, but don't forget about the tight end.
On Friday night, Joe Royer stole the show with seven catches for 161 yards and four touchdowns.
Royer may not be the most polished in-line blocker but he does have great hands for the tight end position. He also has elite size at 6-foot-5, great high-end speed, and stellar leaping ability, all of which were on display in his four touchdowns.

Royer as a receiver is often overlooked in the 2020 class because of Ohio State's four great receiver commits, but on Friday Royer proved he is also a great receiver himself.
OTHER NOTABLE OFFENSIVE PERFORMANCES FROM OHIO STATE COMMITMENTS:
- Julian Fleming broke the Pennsylvania state record for receiving touchdowns and yards.
- Jack Sawyer ran in the game-winning touchdown in an upset win over Dublin Coffman.
- Kyle McCord threw for 269 yards and 3 touchdowns in a bounce-back win.
DEFENSIVE CHAMPION: REID CARRICO, LB, 2021
Reid Carrico has been committed to Ohio State for just three weeks and now he is already making his second appearance as the Eleven Warriors defensive champion.
Carrico is the clear cut leader of his high school team, specifically on defense. On Friday, night Carrico was flying all around the field, totaling 12 tackles and three sacks. His vision and instincts make Carrico a candidate for the defensive champion week in and week out, so this likely won't be the last we hear from him.
OTHER NOTABLE DEFENSIVE PERFORMANCES FROM OHIO STATE COMMITMENTS:
- Jack Sawyer added on another sack on Friday night bringing his season total to 13 sacks through 5 games.
- Lathan Ransom was all over the field of Friday having nothing but solo stops on Friday.
- Cody Simon returned an interception 40 yards for a touchdown last Friday.
