Wilson coached at Oklahoma from 2002-10 while current head coach Brent Venables was a defensive coordinator under Bob Stoops. Wilson left Oklahoma's staff to become Indiana's head coach in 2011, and after six seasons with the Hoosiers, he moved on to become an offensive coordinator at Ohio State (2017-22) and head coach at Tulsa (2023-24). The 63-year-old also spent time in Columbus during the Buckeyes' CFP run this past season, though he never received an official title with the program.
During his first stint at Oklahoma, Wilson won the Broyles Award in 2008 as the top assistant coach in college football. That season, the Sooners won the Big 12 and reached the BCS National Championship Game behind Heisman-winning quarterback Sam Bradford.
Now back in Norman, Wilson will look to help new offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle turn Oklahoma's offense around following a season in which the Sooners averaged 24 points per game. He will also assist running backs coach DeMarco Murray, wide receivers coach Emmett Jones, tight ends coach Joe Jon Finley and offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh.
