Bowling Green is suddenly searching for a new head football coach on the last day of February.

The school announced Friday that Scot Loeffler, who led the Falcons for the past six seasons, has accepted a job as the quarterbacks coach for the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.

"Scot built a very successful program in a challenging climate in collegiate sports," Bowling Green vice president for athletics strategy Derek van der Merwe said in a release. "More importantly, he built this program while ensuring his team and coaches were truly committed to the values and mission that make this university great. Like other great coaches in the history of BGSU football, he has demonstrated that when you build around the strengths of this University and its mission, anything is possible."

Loeffler held a 27-41 career record at Bowling Green, though his last three seasons were his best, each six- or seven-win seasons that ended with bowl-game losses. The Falcons fell 38-31 in the 68 Ventures Bowl to Arkansas State in Loeffler's last game.

Arriving at Bowling Green in 2019 after a three-year tenure as Boston College’s offensive coordinator and quarterback coach, Loeffler inherited a tough rebuilding project as the Falcons were a combined 5-19 in 2017 and 2018.

Loeffler brings eight years of offensive coordinator experience alongside 19 years of quarterback coaching tenure – including two seasons under former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer at Florida in 2009 and 2010 – to Philadelphia. He served as Auburn and Virginia Tech's OC before his stop at Boston College.
