It's not far-fetched to think we could all one day be cheering for an Ohio State video games team. Colleges offer scholarships for it now, and Columbus is home to a very profitable 200-seat arena off Steltzer Road.
From Tim Feran of DIspatch.com:
The latest professional arena to open in central Ohio has proved to be an asset to the region, less than a year since its debut last fall.
The MLG.tv Columbus Arena, Major League Gaming’s first dedicated video-game tournament space outside its New York headquarters, has generated nearly $4 million in visitor spending for central Ohio, according to Experience Columbus, the city’s convention and tourism bureau.
The most recent event hosted was a tournament for the video gameCounter-Strike in late July, the seventh event at the facility since it opened in October. So far, more than $343,0000 in prize money has been awarded to gamers participating in the events at the arena, which draw spectators who in turn have spent much more than that on food, lodging and entertainment.
