Unfortunately, the Buckeyes under Thad Matta haven't been good at free throw shooting relative to most other D1 teams in the NCAA, especially the last couple of years. (Amir Williams anyone???)
Butler, under Chris Holtmann, has been ranked in the top 20% of all D1 teams the last 2 years. Hopefully, these statistics provide a glimpse of what kind of improvement we can expect with the Buckeyes under their new coaching staff.
Looking at the Stats (from NCAA.com)
Ohio State Team FT%:
2016-17: 68.2%, #249 out of 347 total D1 teams
2015-16: 68.4%, #230 / 346
2014-15: 68.0%, #225 / 345
2013-14: 68.9%, #201 / 345
2012-13: 70.8%, #126 / 345
2011-12: 70.9%, #107 / 338
2010-11: 70.1%, #138 / 335
Butler Team FT%:
2016-17: 74.1%, #55 / 347
2015-16: 73.0%, #51 / 346
2014-15: 68.6%, #198 / 345 (Holtmann's first year at Butler)
Keeping my fingers crossed that OSU becomes one of the better teams at this aspect of the game going forward.
