Malaki Branham is starting to heat up in the NBA.
The San Antonio Spurs' first-round 2021 draft pick dropped 20 points to set a new career high on Monday, hitting seven of his 11 field-goal attempts in a four-point win over the Utah Jazz.
The 19-year-old scored a then-career-high 14 points just three games prior, and is now averaging 12.8 points in his past five games – all while coming off the bench. Branham is averaging 6.9 points per game in 17.9 minutes as a rookie.
Ohio State head coach Chris Holtmann said Tuesday that a member of the Spurs' front office, as well as one of Branham's relatives, both sent him messages following the standout performance from the former Buckeye and last year's Big Ten Freshman of the Year.
