Michigan alum here. Thank for you allowing me to create a topic.
Like many of you, I live for college football. And I live for this rivalry. The idea of undefeated Michigan and OSU playing in two weeks is officially starting to cause problems for me at work. Well ok, problems at home too. I’m having far less sex, and the sex I am having seems to finish with me yelling “he was short!! He was short!!” Then I feel that familiar shame which typically ends with me watching the late games alone with a family sized bag of Doritos. Point being — I cannot wait for 11/26. And no matter what happens that day, I respect the shit out of this rivalry and remain thankful for it.
It makes it all the more shameful when I read John U. Bacon’s first hand account of what happened at the Michigan State game when MSU staff and players were heard by multiple sources planning to injure Blake Corum. Similar threats were planned against JJ McCarthy, and if you watch replays you can actually see attempts to injure both players. This, of course, was all pretext to the tunnel incident. This is not respect. This is a program off the rails led by a coach who condones —and even facilitates such behavior. The B1G has yet to do anything about the tunnel incident. But regardless — us at Michigan understand that the MSU program is about petty anger and vengeance, not respect.
And so, OSU and Michigan once more take the field detesting one another. The two best teams in the conference (by a mile) play time see who’s going to the CFP. And though I’m hopeful for a physical, bruising style of football, it will always have the respect it deserves. I can tell you that Michigan respects OSU greatly. And I think that’s pretty special.
