women's volleyball streak ends

Ohio State's 11-match win streak did not survive the weekend, as No. 21 Minnesota bested the Buckeyes three sets to two in the Big Ten opener.

The Gophers put the Buckeyes in a hole by winning the first two sets, but Ohio State battled back to send it to a fifth set where they were ultimately defeated 15-11, giving them their first loss since the season opener.

It did not take the team long to bounce back from the defeat though. Just two days later, Ohio State defeated No. 16 Wisconsin in yet another five-set thriller.

Ohio State women's volleyball team celebrates

The team is 12-2 on the season, but has only just begun their grueling Big Ten slate. It features seven ranked opponents, including top-ranked Penn State in back-to-back matches.

This week, the Buckeyes play host to Iowa, Friday, and No. 4 Nebraska, Saturday.

men's soccer notches a win

For the first time since the season opener, the men's soccer team tasted victory.

In a Friday evening game, Ohio State got back in the win column with a 2-0 victory against Dayton. Junior forwards Yaw Amankwa and Christian Soldat scored for OSU.

"We really needed a win tonight against a good Dayton team and our guys had the focus and determination," head coach John Bluem said.

The team had clear early season struggles. After winning their season opener, the Buckeyes dropped four straight matches in which they were outscored by a total of 7-1. Recently, it appears they found their form. Last weekend, Ohio State tied two ranked opponents in Akron and Penn State, and finally got back in the win column against Dayton.

They'll look to continue their upward trend this week with matches against Louisville and Michigan State.
