This Week in Twitter is a look at some of the week's best and most entertaining tweets from Buckeyeland and beyond.
With college basketball finally wrapped up and the spring game behind Buckeye fans, the dog days of the Ohio State football offseason have arrived. Fortunately, distractions such as the USFL are here to help fill the void, with former stars in scarlet and gray such as Johnnie Dixon already making significant contributions to the rebooted football league.

Dixon's opening efforts were felt all the way back in Columbus, earning praise from reigning football team captain Kamryn Babb.
Man its good to see big bro out there doing what he loves to do. Seeing how you have persevered has done more for me than you know. Proud of you brotha. @YoungKing_JD5

Buckeye fans that tuned in for the opening weekend of USFL play were blessed with a familiar performance from former Michigan quarterback Shea Patterson.

To the credit of the former Wolverine, Patterson did exhibit considerable class prior to kickoff with wrist tape featuring the nickname and number of Dwayne Haskins.

The days following the USFL's return didn't fare any better for Michigan, as former Wolverine running back DeVeon Smith became the subject of arguably the most controversial roster cut in recent football memory.

Getting back to the Buckeyes, Ohio State continues to make its impact on the NFL world felt — most recently through former defensive back Denzel Ward's record extension with the Cleveland Browns.

Ward took to Twitter to express his gratitude shortly after the news broke that he would become the top-earning defensive back in the history of professional football.
Loss of words, Im blessed.I want to thank the Haslams, JW Johnson, Andrew Berry, coach Stefanski and the rest of the browns organization for continuing to to believe in the home grown kid and allowing me to represent this organization and city of Cleveland where Im from @Browns
— Denzel Ward (@denzelward) April 18, 2022
Ward received expressions and messages of congratulations from several loved ones before the ink could even dry on his new deal.

Meanwhile, on the other side of Ohio and the AFC North, Eli Apple and Vonn Bell helped welcome back baseball with an opening pitch in Cincinnati — a rare reason for Reds fans to smile this season!

Not every NFL Buckeye is enjoying the luxuries and spoils of the offseason at the moment. Some are all still all about the grind.

By this time next week, there will be a new batch of professional Ohio State football players for fans to brag and boast about. One of the names almost certainly slated to be off the board on Thursday evening would be Garrett Wilson, especially after making waves among NFL executives this week.
.@OhioStateFB WR Garrett Wilson just finished his visit with the #Commanders, per source.
— Jordan Schultz (@Schultz_Report) April 18, 2022
Wilson, according to one GM I spoke with, is one of the best receivers Ive evaluated over the past five years. Speed, route-running, hands, can break the game open at any time.
The anonymous general manager certainly must have enjoyed the director's cut of Wilson's pro day that Ohio State released a few days later.

As Wilson prepares to leave Columbus behind, he made sure to bless the next generation of Buckeye talent — even on the other side of the ball.

Elsewhere in Ohio, J.T. Barrett felt compelled to give a response to the claim of Toledo native, current Pittsburgh Steeler, and former Wolverine Chris Wormley that the infamous "Spot" against Michigan in 2016 should have been ruled down short.

— Jordan Strack (@JordanStrack) April 21, 2022
Barrett — a habitual line-crosser — took to Twitter to escalate the beef.
Dang @Chris_Wormley43 you sound bitter. We can talk about all the other years you were there and we beat yall too. Im open to it. Lets keep it light tho. #GoBucks https://t.co/wAYIst8jGc

Meanwhile, back in Columbus, Gene Smith spent almost the entire week searching for rodents snacking on The Shoe's electric grid.

Dan Hope inadvertently contributed to the Oklahoma fan social media brigade against Lincoln Riley and the Trojans this week when he interviewed a former USC kicker about the lousy atmosphere at Memorial Coliseum compared to Ohio Stadium.

A genuine surprise was the departure of Jay Wright from the Villanova Wildcats this week. Current Ohio State basketball coach Chris Holtmann made sure to offer his best wishes after news broke of the two-time championship-winning coach's ride into the sunset.
Congratulations to Jay on a remarkable career. One of the very best to ever do it. Appreciate the friendship and competition in recent years. Best wishes to Jay and Patty in retirement. https://t.co/kUXwAtciiB

Elsewhere in college hoops, former Ohio State men's coach Thad Matta made a scarlet and gray splash this week by adding former players Greg Oden and Jon Diebler to his staff at Butler.

Folks glad for baseball season's return will surely appreciate this 504 home run from former Buckeye slugger Dom Canzone that set a record in Amarillo's Double-A ballpark.
LOL. Bats woke up.

Finally, Pro Football Focus made the case for Buckeye fans to miss a key departure from the defense heading into next season.
