Ohio State has fired longtime baseball coach Greg Beals.
The Buckeyes parted ways with Beals after 12 seasons in Columbus, the athletic department announced Monday. He had one year remaining on his contract.
A search for Beals’ replacement will begin immediately, per Ohio State’s announcement.
In a dozen years at OSU, Beals finished with a 346-288-1 record overall and a 141-139 mark in Big Ten play. Beals led OSU to three NCAA tournament appearances in 2016, 2018 and 2019 and won the Big Ten tournament in 2016 and 2019.
His firing comes after Ohio State finished 12th in the Big Ten this past season with a 8-14 conference record (21-30 overall), only finishing ahead of Minnesota and Michigan State.
Beals’ best season came in 2016, when OSU finished 44-20-1. But the Buckeyes never made it past the regional round of the NCAA Tournament with Beals at the helm.
