190 Ohio State athletes are Big Ten Distinguished Scholars for the 2022-23 academic year.
The Big Ten Distinguished Scholars consist of athletes who achieved a grade-point average of 3.7 or better for the 2022-23 academic year.
Ohio State’s honorees include four football players – wide receiver Kamryn Babb, left guard Donovan Jackson, punter Jesse Mirco and long snapper Max Lomonico – as well as athletes from 33 other Ohio State sports teams. Other Buckeye standouts who earned Distinguished Scholar status include Patty Kazmaier Award-winning women’s hockey defenseman Sophie Jaques and women’s basketball starters Jacy Sheldon and Taylor Thierry.
National-champion pistol shooter Katelyn Abeln, AVCA Northeast Region women’s volleyball player of the year Emily Londot and Big Ten women’s tennis player of the year Irina Cantos Siemers were among 47 Buckeye athletes who earned 4.0 GPAs in 2022-23. Ohio State’s 190 Big Ten Distinguished Scholars were the most in the conference, followed by Penn State (174) and Michigan State (153). It's the second-highest total of Big Ten Distinguished Scholars that Ohio State has had in a single year since the award was established in 2009; Ohio State had 232 Big Ten Distinguished Scholars in 2020-21.
This year’s 190 honorees were among 765 Buckeye athletes who earned Ohio State Scholar-Athlete honors in 2022-2023 for achieving GPAs of at least 3.0.
