Ohio State women’s hockey avenged last season’s national championship game loss on Friday night.
In its first game against Wisconsin since its 1-0 defeat in last season’s Frozen Four final, Ohio State earned a 3-0 victory over the Badgers, who entered Friday night’s game at the OSU Ice Rink as the No. 1-ranked team in the country.

Kiara Zanon, Ohio State’s leading goalscorer this year, put the No. 2-ranked Buckeyes on the board with her seventh goal of the season in the first period of the game.

Jennifer Gardiner, who leads the Buckeyes with 16 points for the year, scored a pair of power-play goals in the second period to give Ohio State a 3-0 lead that it would hold for the rest of the game.

The Buckeyes, who are now 10-1 on the season, handed the 12-1 Badgers their first loss of the season on Friday. Ohio State and Wisconsin will meet again for the second game of their two-game series at 3 p.m. Saturday, with the No. 1 ranking likely to go to whoever wins the second game.
