D'Angelo Russell said before the NBA Draft that he was the best player available.
The Minnesota Timberwolves disagreed with his #take, and drafted former Kentucky star Karl-Anthony Towns No. 1 overall instead.
Russell will wear No. 1 in the pros, and today on The Dan Patrick Show, he explained why:
D'angelo Russell on DP, gonna wear number 1 bc "I should have been the first pick"

Among other things, Russell said his goal is to be the smartest player on the floor and the best possible teammate. His new backcourt mate, Kobe Bryant, would be a great teacher of the former. Russell would probably be wise, however, to skip Kobe Bryant's teammate seminars.
Time will tell if the Timberwolves come to rue their decision.
