The 11W Community Interview is truly of the people, by the people and for the people. You submit the questions and then we pass them on to the biggest names in the world of Ohio State athletics.
Franklin, Tennessee, four-star offensive tackle Max Wray became the sixth member of Ohio State's Supreme '18 recruiting class when he pledged his services to the head coach Urban Meyer ahead of the annual Spring Game in April.
He wasn't on campus at the time, but hoped his pledge would give the Buckeyes some much-needed momentum heading into a big recruiting weekend.
Seven months later, the 6-foot-7, 289-pound Wray has completed his senior season and is set to sign with Ohio State during the Early Signing Period in December. He'll enroll in classes in January, and should compete for a starting spot along an offensive line set to lose left tackle Jamarco Jones to graduation.
First, however, he sits down and talks with our readers about the recruiting process, life after football, beating That Team Up North and more in the 11W Community Interview.
Who is the biggest inspiration in your life so far?
MW: “My biggest inspiration so far in my life is my dad. He's been through so much, but he's come out a great man and a better dad.”
Do you have a favorite all-time Ohio State offensive lineman, and who is he?
MW: “I'd say Taylor Decker. I remember watching him when I first started playing offensive line, and I tried to emulate some of the things he did.”
Which current Ohio State defensive lineman would you most want to try your hand against?
MW: “I'm excited to try and block Nick Boa. Gotta beat the man to be the man.”
What is your take on alternate uniforms?
MW: “I like them a lot. It's different than anything else they've done before. I'm excited to see the ones we wear next year.”
Be honest. Who is better, you or your younger brother, Jake?
MW: “Right now, me. We are different players, though. He is more of a road grader than I am, but I pride myself in being the best at pass blocking. He's going to be really good.”
Are you guys going to be the Bosas of the offensive line?
MW: “Man, I hope so. Even a comparison to them is incredible.”
Just how hard is it to decommit? Were you anxious about telling Georgia?
MW: “It was really hard for me. It is a great place and I had a lot of good relationships there. I struggled with the decision for a long time, but it was in my best interest.”
What do you want to do after football?
MW: “I'm torn between becoming a physical therapist and coaching football. I haven't decided fully yet.”
What's the hardest defensive end pass rush move to block against as an offensive tackle?
MW: “Probably the long arm. If you get someone who is really long and fast, they can go speed to power really quick and get you off balance easily if you're not perfect in your set.”
Would you rather have four pairs of Gold Pants for beating Michigan or win the Outland Trophy?
MW: “Is it acceptable to do both? I'd prefer to win four pairs of gold pants, for sure. And, at the rate we're going, it looks like I hae a good shot.”
