Every weekend in the fall, thousands of high school football times line up and take their shot at prep glory. The Sunday morning Prep Tracker is your final stop for the names, numbers and scores that mattered to Ohio State's recruiting efforts.
BURROW WINS AGAIN
In a tough game against a strong St. Vincent-St. Mary team, 2015 quarterback commit Joe Burrow was, once again, Joe Burrow.
In the Division III state semifinals, Burrow led his Athens team to a 34-31 comeback victory. The Bulldogs were down 17-7 at halftime, but Burrow threw for 320 yards and four touchdowns, the last of which gave Athens the lead.
With 53 touchdowns passes against just one interception on the season, Burrow is the odds-on favorite to be this year's Mr. Ohio. Next Thursday, Burrow and his Athens teammates will compete for a state championship when they take on Toledo Central Catholic in the Horseshoe.
TWO MORE OHIO STATE COMMITS TO END SEASON AT THE SHOE
Two other Ohio State commits, cornerback Denzel Ward and linebacker Jerome Baker, have a chance to end their season in the Horseshoe with state championship rings.
In the Division II semifinals, Ward led his Nordonia squad to a 52-14 blowout of Mayfield. One of the highlights of the game was when Ward took a screen pass 91 yards for a touchdown, showcasing his speed. Nordonia plays La Salle on Friday night.
Baker and his Benedictine squad easily defeated Steubenville in the Division IV semifinals. The Bengals jumped out to an early lead, led 33-6 at halftime and went on to win 40-12. In the state championship, Benedictine will face a tricky Archbishop Alter team. The game will be played Friday at 10 AM in the Horseshoe.
COCOA AND BOOKER T. WASHINGTON PLAY CLOSE GAME
Ohio State cornerback commit Jamel Dean's season has come to an end after a tough loss to national powerhouse Booker T. Washington. Washington is always one of the top teams in the country, and at the moment it is ranked fourth nationally. Cocoa is the 29th-ranked team in Florida, according to the most recent Maxpreps.com rankings.
It was a low scoring game the whole way. Washington was up 14-6 and Cocoa had the ball with under 4 minutes to go. Cocoa scored a touchdown as time expired to make it 14-12; they went for a two-point conversion to extend the game and came up empty.
Dean led his team to a 11-2 record and the Florida Class 4A state semifinals, nearly upsetting a nationally ranked Washington team. Following the loss, Dean came up to Columbus to attend The Game. He hopes to build on his success at Cocoa when he comes to Ohio State more permanently.
