Ian Moore, Kristopher Jones and Christian Bentancur Pick Up Ohio State Offers While Donovan Johnson Dazzles in Private Workout with Tony Alford

For the second straight day, Ohio State found multiple prospects worth offering.

Three recruits received offers on Wednesday, all of them four-star recruits from the class of 2024: Indiana offensive lineman Ian Moore, Virginia linebacker Kristopher Jones and Illinois tight end Christian Bentancur. 

Moore was the first offer of the day after he had the strongest showing among offensive linemen in the morning session. Offensive line coach Justin Frye was impressed with Moore’s technique and performance in one-on-one drills as he lined up at both left and right tackle.

After camp concluded, Moore was one of three linemen to go through a private workout with Frye alongside Ohio four-star 2024 offensive lineman Ben Roebuck and Wisconsin three-star 2024 offensive lineman Derek Jensen. Following the workout, Moore had a meeting with Ryan Day, who presented him with his offer.  

“It felt amazing to get it,” Moore told Eleven Warriors after getting the offer. “When coach Day told me, I was speechless. He just told me I had a great day at camp and they really like me and told me I had an offer. If I had to rank (where the offer stands), it’d be pretty high on my list.”

Moore’s offer from Ohio State was his 23rd total. The 6-foot-5, 295-pound prospect is ranked as the 206th-best player and the 11th-best offensive lineman in 247Sports’ composite rankings for the 2024 class.

“I've been to plenty of places and like, this is one of the most impressive ones I've been to,” Moore said of Ohio State. 

Jones was the only defensive player to receive an offer from Ohio State on Wednesday. He was every bit of 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds as advertised and made a couple of nice plays in one-on-one drills despite dealing with a sore knee coming into camp. 

“An offer would change my recruitment a lot,” Jones said shortly before getting offered by Jim Knowles. “This is a prestigious school. So it would definitely change my recruitment a lot.” 

Jones has 20 Division I offers and is ranked as the 104th-best player and eighth-best linebacker in his class. He worked with Knowles for the first time today and said Ohio State’s defensive coordinator lived up to his reputation. 

“He’s intense,” Jones said. “But he’s trying to teach you things.” 

In the afternoon session, Bentancur became the fourth tight end Ohio State has offered in the 2024 class. Kevin Wilson was paying attention to Bentancur’s footwork and agility in drills, and both passed his evaluation.

“He just said he liked what he saw,” Bentancur told Eleven Warriors. “He said he just needed to see like how I ran and he liked how I moved and like my flexibility and stuff like that.” 

Day presented him with an offer shortly after his workout. 

“It’s crazy to have an offer from one of the top schools in the nation,” Bentancur said. “It’s just nuts.” 

Bentancur has primarily lined up outside as a wide receiver in high school, as evident by his sophomore year where he caught 53 passes for 1,165 yards and 16 touchdowns. His future at college is at tight end, though, and he has picked up 26 Division I offers to this point. 

Ohio State running backs coach Tony Alford spent most of his time on Wednesday with 2025 Georgia running back Donovan Johnson, who he put through a private workout. Johnson, who already held an Ohio State offer before his visit, was impressed with what he saw on his visit. 

“I talk to coach Alford every day,” Johnson said. “It’s always a family atmosphere here. It’s great, I love coach Alford, I love the head coach, I love everybody.” 

Johnson showed why he might be one of the premier running backs in the 2025 class Wednesday, displaying great agility and an ability to pass catch out of the backfield. 

“I'm just really just trying to turn into an all-around back,” Johnson said.

International recruits flooded to Columbus the past two days as part of PPI’s annual DreamChasers tour. While no international recruit landed an offer from OSU Wednesday, there was one that stood above the rest. 

German 2023 linebacker Justin Okoronkwo arguably had the best camp performance of any linebacker on Wednesday, shutting nearly every route down in one-on-ones. He also ran a 4.56-second 40-yard dash. 

While neither Roebuck nor Jensen received Ohio State offers Wednesday, both had impressive wins during one-on-ones.

“I think (coach Frye) was telling me to improve my running game blocking and my run footsteps,” Roebuck said. “I think that’s something I’ll work on this summer.” 

The highlight of the day belongs to 2024 Texas defensive end Loghan Thomas, who probably had the most one-sided rep in one-on-ones in the morning session.
