Despite being ostracized in New York and his various legal troubles leading to his departure from Pittsburgh, Santonio Holmes will forever remain in NFL lore.
Yes, Holmes is only 30 years old, but now is a good time to reflect on his career. Chicago waived him, Tuesday, after catching eight passes and serving as the primary punt returner. Offensive coordinator Aaron Kromer explained the reasoning behind the decision:
Kromer on Santonio Holmes: "We needed a roster spot for Marquess Wilson."

After receiving his release, Holmes tried out for the wide receiver needy Chiefs, according to NFL.com. They did not sign him, which leads to the inevitable question: is Holmes' career over? After all, he did not hook up with the Bears until mid-August, well after everyone reported for camp.
If this is the end, feel free to enjoy this career retrospective. Naturally, it includes the famous Super Bowl XLIII-winning touchdown grab against the Cardinals:
Brewster joins Stoneburner in Miami
After the Jaguars released him before week one, it took a while for Mike Brewster to find a new home. Once again, he will not have to leave his native Florida to collect a paycheck:
The Dolphins have signed CB T.J. Heath and OG Michael Brewster to the practice squad.

As referenced in last week's NFL recap, tight end Jake Stoneburner is also on the Dolphins practice squad. The two played together at Ohio State from 2009-2011.
Play of the Week
Nothing warms the heart like a child's smile or a Buckeye touchdown. What if you could get both in one swoop?
Well, Philly Brown delivered it thanks to this bomb from Cam Newton. It was Brown's first career touchdown reception:
Instead of keeping the ball from an obvious career milestone, he handed it to a lucky Panthers fan (via @cjzero):
