I always love the idea of any major college football coach heading into the classroom and flexing their muscles a bit. When Jim Tressel did it, it seemed like a natural extension of a background that began with coaching and obtaining his Master's in education. It was easy to envision ol' Tress as a seasoned college professor, aglow in a tweed jacket and sweatervest. And hey, that proved extremely prophetic, because as you most assuredly know, he's the current president of Youngstown State University and enjoying life, thank you very much.
Anyway, I was pretty excited when I found out that Urban Meyer would continue that fine academic tradition at Ohio State. Like Tressel, Meyer (shockingly) doesn't have a ton of time to devote to lesson planning, lecturing, and facilitating activities and discussion. KNPE 2620.04, Coaching: Football, relies heavily on guest speakers, but by all accounts is a rigorous and in-depth class worthy of anyone's attention.
Still... I feel like it could be missing the fan perspective, and as an experienced, licensed teacher with an MEd myself, I thought I could offer my services to Urban should he find himself in need. Below is a sample lesson plan, with a heavy emphasis on hands-on learning methods.
As you can see, after experiencing this lesson, any aspiring coach could give you insight into the beauty, majesty, and pathology of the Ohio State fan.
