No. 6 Ohio State is off this week, but media sponsors still want their #content. As such, Urban Meyer took to 97.1 The Fan's airwaves Thursday to discuss all things Buckeye football with Paul Keels and Jim Lachey.
"We're going to find out in the next month [how good we are]," Meyer said. "Our record speaks for itself but we have to go beat Penn State."
"This is, top to bottom, far and away the best receiving corp we've had since I've been here." Again noted they're six-deep. "Our chemistry between quarterback and receivers has never been better, but again, go beat Penn State."
Marcus Baugh is "playing the best football of his career." Lauded Kevin Wilson and former tight end coach Tim Hinton, who still works in a support role, for helping Baugh reach the next level of his development.
COFFEE FOR THE COACH QUESTION from NICK IN ATHENS: Whats the off week like? Do you get to be a college football fan?
- Ohio State practiced Monday through Wednesday, said they'll simulate a game Thursday without donning full pads.
- As far as games he'll watch, he's going to his son's high school Friday night. "Can't skip that one."
Meyer said Nebraska usually dropped eight in coverage to start the game, but came out with tight coverage in attempt to make Barrett beat them. "We're trying to figure out why they did that." Speculated the wind (35 mph) could have had something to do with it.
On J.K. Dobbins: "He's a pro. I compare him to Raekwon McMillan as a man who came in and immediately handled his business."
They're still trying to get Mike Weber "loose" during a game. Looks like himself in practice but hasn't broken through like that in a game.
Jeff in Hilliard: What was the reason for lack of sacks and tackles for loss against Nebraska?
- "That'd be a good question for Coach Schiano."
- Said he immediately got on the recruiting road when they got back from Nebraska and turned attention to Penn State. He'll research that this week.
- "We didn't do anything different." Said Nebraska abandoned the run "pretty early."
John in Columbus: Why is J.T. Barrett in so long during blowouts?
- "I kinda have a rule we let them start the second half."
- Nebraska scored 14 points, and Meyer wanted to give the starters one more possession before putting the second-string on. Meyer has had a game where he had to put the first-string back in after the second-string surrendered a lead. Doesn't want to do that again.
- "We usually side on the cautious side."
Randy in Cleveland: Should I be a Michigan or Penn State fan this weekend?
- "I just can't imagine cheering for our rivals."
- "I won't say anything other than that."
Meyer likes his primary play caller to be in the coaches box. "A sterile environment where they can concentrate."
Meyer, however, asked Schiano to return to the field due to his passion, which is tough to bottle during games while in the box.
Keels set up Meyer with a softball to gush about Tim Tebow, who's going into the Florida Athletics Hall of Fame. Shockingly, Meyer remains a fan of the former right fielder he once saw "take over a game with leadership."
Meyer put Tyquan Lewis with John Simon and Tebow as some of "the toughest guys I've been around."
