Ohio Governor John Kasich has weighed in on Ohio State University's investigation into head football coach Urban Meyer.
Kasich told the Dayton Daily News that he wasn't sure what President Michael Drake and the university's board of trustees were going to decide, but that he "hopes (Meyer) is going to be fine."
"So, I hope this will all be resolved," Kasich told the Dayton Daily News. "I hope that he’s going to be in a position where he can — this has been difficult, I’m sure, for he and his family — I hope can get his reputation back because it’s been damaged and it might not be fair."
The university's board of trustees have a meeting scheduled for 9 a.m., Wednesday. In it, they're expected to enter executive session to discuss the results of an investigation that explored how Meyer handled domestic violence allegations against his former wide receivers coach Zach Smith.
Meyer has been on paid administrative lead since Aug. 1.
In a statement addressing Buckeye Nation on Aug. 3, Meyer wrote, "Here is the truth: While at the University of Florida, and now at The Ohio State University, I have always followed proper reporting protocols and procedures when I have learned of an incident involving a student-athlete, coach or member of our staff by elevating the issues to the proper channels. And I did so regarding the Zach Smith incident in 2015. I take that responsibility very seriously and any suggestion to the contrary is simply false."
