Once again, you'll have to be prepared to pay up if you want to watch Ohio State play in person this year.
While approximately 16,000 fans will be able to attend next week's national championship game at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, Ohio State won't be selling any tickets to the general public. While the school received an allotment of 3,750 tickets for the game, many of those tickets will go to the guests of players and coaches – each player will receive six tickets – while the remainder are going to students and donors, an Ohio State spokesperson said Sunday.
Tickets are no longer available through the College Football Playoff, either, meaning members of the general public who want to attend the game will be limited to purchasing from the secondary market – and the options aren't cheap. As of Sunday afternoon, all national championship game tickets available for resale on StubHub were over $1,000.
The crowd at Hard Rock Stadium will be by far the largest Ohio State has played in front of all year, as Sugar Bowl attendance was limited to 3,000 fans while there were no fans other than family members at any Big Ten regular-season games. Still, Hard Rock Stadium – which hosted more than 80,000 fans, a venue record, for the 2013 BCS National Championship Game between Alabama and Notre Dame – will be capped at only about 20 percent of its capacity for this year's battle between the Buckeyes and Crimson Tide.
The national championship game is scheduled for 8 p.m. next Monday, Jan. 11, and will be televised on ESPN for those who aren't able to attend.
