The four-year Cowboy coordinator's contract with the Buckeyes will not go into effect until Jan. 2, 2022, the day after Ohio State's Rose Bowl matchup with Utah. Notre Dame, which plays Oklahoma State on New Year's Day, will be the first team Knowles and the Buckeyes face to start the 2022 regular season next September.
Knowles, whose Cowboy defense ranks top 10 in the country in both total defense and scoring defense in 2021, is set to make $1.9 million per year as part of a three-year deal with Ohio State. Knowles will be the highest-paid assistant coach on the Buckeye staff.
