Ohio State opens the season with a blockbuster home showdown against the Fighting Irish, and it looks like the Buckeyes will be healthy favorites, opening as 10.5-point favorites on the William Hill sportsbook.

The Buckeyes were sizeable favorites for nearly every game last season, as well, closing as 14.5-point favorites in the home showdown with Oregon – a game they ultimately lost.
Ohio State was just a single-digit favorite in each of the last two games of the 2021 season, closing as a 6.5-point favorite over Michigan in the rivalry showdown and a 4-point favorite over Utah in the Rose Bowl.
While the Buckeyes will be a double-digit favorite, it is actually the narrowest spread the they have faced in a season-opener since 2003 when Ohio State entered the season-opening showdown with Washington as a nine-point favorite. The defending-champion Buckeyes ultimately won that contest by a score of 28-9.
